The Power of Pink

The use of this color, when done in this fashion can be dynamic. It creates a feeling of freshness and peace….love it!

Name dropping…marcel breuer, poul kjaerholm , jean prouvé jesus and mary! Oh my…but if you can’t get the real thing, going to treasure marts and second hand shops, if you will, you might be able to put this together ‘snap’! I love this room a lot. This is a fun way to put together an apartment.

…and maybe these shoes just casually lying around!

I saw this painting (even though small) and I immediately visualized it as a take-off point in a room, whether it be a white room, a neutral toned room…etc.

It would be fun to keep all furniture neutral except for the pillows and accessories, pulling out colors from this fun piece.  The sky is the limit…sheets, place mats,  dishes, flowers…  WOW!

If you have some spring freshening up to do, here are some ‘neutral’ ways to brighten up your apartment.  With spring here, I am in the mood for sunlight and a feeling of clean.  I have the urge to purge all of my unwanted items and refresh my space.  These looks are inspiring me, and maybe they will have the same effect on  you.  HAPPY SPRING EQUINOX!

Tea Time

What’s not to like about this spot? Waking up to this in the morning or coming home at night to have a spot of tea would be quite pleasant! The white is fresh, simple and appealing.

Texture along with color make a room interesting. The weave of a fabric can be art in itself. I have always loved the titles given to certain fabrics and the color names; it lures you into using them in your own apartment…if only a touch of it. Maybe just a pillow or two will satisfy! Perhaps just a little accent color from a favorite painting…

Sigh!

P.S.  I am thinking that the walls were hand painted.  I could live with that.

Asher Israelow and Jamie Goldenberg are a creative couple based in New York City’s West Village. Asher is an architectural and furniture designer working out of Red Hook, Brooklyn, and Jamie is a photo editor for Bloomberg’s Businessweek. Their home is a collection of objects, both handmade and admired. They have many designer and artist friends, so most of their furniture, ceramics, lighting and artwork have a personal history. Thanks, Asher and Jamie, and thanks to Chris Sanders for the great images!— Anne

We love having friends over for meals, so a big dining table is necessary. The chairs are my all-time favorites, designed by Charlotte Perriand for Les Arcs ski lodge. On the back wall is a painting by James Cogbill, a school friend and fellow collaborator.

Not only do I love the white drawing-like painting in the room, but I especially like the splash of orange.  It is a ‘feel good’ color.  I relate it to the Sacral Chakra, SVADISTHANA, ones own abode (if you are into that). But if that is not  your thing,  it just adds a great punch to a room.  I use it in my space and it definitely has a pleasant effect.

Classic and clean, a look I can always live with.  Fine art always adds a finishing touch, along with a very special rug.
